Albert William Kennedy

May 26, 1932 - December 19, 2016

Albert was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  He moved his young family to southern California in 1953 and to Portland in 1969.  Al passed away at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center surrounded by his wife, Doreen, daughter Linda, and sons Tom and Jack.

At a young age Al started work in the steel foundry in Hamilton.  When he wasn’t working his full-time job he worked the family farm to help his aunt and uncle.  He met Doreen on a blind date set up by her cousin Margaret.  A wedding followed and they’ve remained married for over 65 years.

Al had two great passions, ice hockey and horse racing.  He was president of the Norwalk, CA youth hockey program for several years.  His family traveled all over southern California where his sons played hockey.  Al himself played and coached at the old Silver Skate ice rink in southeast Portland and traveled with teams to play in Alaska and Arizona.  Horse racing drew Al and Doreen for vacations from Canada to California to Florida to enjoy an afternoon at the races.  A race horse owner himself, he was proud of the fact that he got to Churchill Downs for The Kentucky Derby (Louisville, KY), The Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park (Elmont, NY) and the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita Park (Arcadia, CA).  When health wasn’t an issue Al and Doreen spent winters in Yuma, AZ and Desert Hot Springs, CA.  He had a wonderful personality and made friends easily wherever they traveled.

Al had a strong work ethic and was a devoted employee to Phelps Dodge in City of Industry, CA and Malarkey Roofing in Portland, OR.  He had a great sense of humor and never hesitated to send a rookie for a bucket of elbow grease.

Al leaves behind a legacy of 3 children who shared the love of their blended families of 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  He teased them all and was loved by all.
