Gonzalo "Jesse" V. Racasa, January 10, 1931 - December 30, 2016, passed away at the age of 85, just 11 days short of his 86th birthday. Known as Jesse by close friends and family, was born in Lucban Quezon, Philippines, the 6th of nine children. Jesse graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from National University, Manila, Philippines and worked as a Plant Engineer with San Miguel Corporation for eight years.
He married Esther Topacio in November 1963 and together they raised three daughters. In 1968, Jesse immigrated to the United States in search for better opportunities. A year later, his wife and kids followed and lived in California for 11 years before moving to Portland, Oregon in 1979. He had a long successful career as a Mechanical Engineer for Pacific Power and Utah Power until he retired.
Jesse enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling. He had a strong aptitude for math and enjoyed solving complex Suduko puzzles. He loved tending to his Koi pond, his dog, Ginger and feeding the wild birds in his backyard. Jesse was also known for being a great cook. He enjoyed preparing Filipino dishes and desserts for his family and friends. Jesse will be remembered for his strong faith in God and was an active member in the Rockwood and Sunnyside Seventh Day Adventist church. He was a generous man and helped many of his nephews and nieces in the Philippines with their college education while providing a Christian education for his own children. He supported charitable organizations to build churches and schools in his hometown.
Jesse is survived by his wife of 53 years, Esther T. Racasa, his children Czarina Gatmaitan, Joy Staples and Clarissa Eivers, and his grandchildren Curtis Gatmaitan, Chelsea Gatmaitan and Curtis Staples.
