Margaret Eleanor White Downie died peacefully in her Beaverton home, October 1st, 2017, surrounded by her beloved family. She was ninety-six.
Daughter of James Milton White and Erma Gilpin White, Margaret was born on March 26th, 1921, in her grandmother's Vancouver, Wa. home.
Margaret met her late husband, Robert Elford Downie, at Oregon State, where Margaret was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and Robert was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. They married in 1942, and enjoyed 67 years together until Robert's death in 2009.
Margaret and "Bob" raised three children (Ginny, Micki, and Bob Jr.) in Portland, Oregon. Bob worked for many years at Benjamin Franklin Savings and Loan, where he eventually became president. The family enjoyed golfing at Riverside, Columbia Edgewater, and Portland Golf Clubs. Margaret was active in and presided over the PTA, the Alpha Chi Omega Alumni Association, The Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon, The Broadmoor Women's Club, and the Assistance League.
The Couple retired to Anacortes, Washington, where they pursued thier long-time love of boating. Margaret also loved playing bridge and listening to Bob play his organ. She had a great love for her family. She is survived by her children, Ginny, Micki, and Bob, Jr., seven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Margaret will be buried next to Bob Sr. in a private graveside cememony at The Willamette National Cemetery.
