Calvin E. HunterJune 13, 1927 ~ October 1, 2017 (age 90)
Calvin E. Hunter, age 90, died on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Marquis of Oregon City, Oregon. He was born at home in Sparta, Tennessee to Clarence and Ena Hunter. Calvin was the eldest of four children. After an "early-departure" from high school, he went to work at a local rock crusher with a friend. With World War II happening, he begged his parents to join the Navy at age 17. According to his little sister Nell, everyone just wanted to do their part, he wanted to serve his country. He was discharged from service at Mill City, Oregon. There he met his sweetheart Alta working at the Mill City Cafe. That very day Alta met him, she told her girlfriend, "I'm going to marry that man!" And they did marry and went on to have four children: Gary, Sherry, Marilyn and Janice, respectively.
He began working road construction with Roger's Construction and ended up receiving his 50 year pin at this company. He made sure the equipment was running properly and drove Cat for them taking part in construction of dams, raceways, highways in Michigan, all over Oregon and California, and an airport in Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alta in 1989, his sister Peggy in 1999, his youngest daughter, Janice, in 2015, and his little brother, Nelson, in 2016.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 1:00pm at Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes, 11667 S.E. Stevens Road, Happy Valley, Oregon 97086 with Pastor Floyd Schwanz officiating.
