Obituary for Stephanie Maria (Talley) Phillips

Our Beloved Sister, Aunt, and Friend

Stephanie Maria (Talley) Phillips, 58, of Happy Valley, Oregon, born July 2, 1959, passed away on August 6, 2017.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin F. and Olga A. Talley, and her brother, Benjamin F. Talley III.

Stephanie is survived by her sisters, Karla Smith (husband, Ernest), Benita Gilliard, and Deanna Talley; nephews, Michael Gilliard II, Marcus Clark (wife, Rotiesha); her niece, Genevieve Ashton Gilliard; and great-nephew and niece, Todd Clark and Aaliyah Clark; and a host of dear and cherished loved ones.

Stephanie was a wonderful sister, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, cook, traveler and friend.  She led a very full and rich life.  Stephanie attended St. Mary’s Academy in Portland, Oregon and went on to college at Tuskegee State University in Alabama.  She retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service at the Main Post Office in Portland, Oregon.

Stephanie was a loyal and dedicated person and loved to talk about her years growing up. She was the second child of five children born to the Talley Family and was the comedian of the family. She always found something (smart) to say.  She was spunky. She was vivacious. She was picky. She was brave.  In all phases of her life – she was a warrior. Stephanie’s appearance was beautiful; her character, strong in faith, and her will to live, inspiring.

Stephanie found her happiest moments spending time with family and her closest friends. She was an excellent cook and also loved to eat everyone else’s good cooking.  She was always happy in the kitchen whipping up her own specialties (fried chicken, jambalaya, key lime pie and lemon cake).  Closely behind family and friends was Stephanie’s love of football.  She was a true football enthusiast and staunch defender of her beloved Dallas Cowboys.

God was so wonderful to our sister.  And although He gave her to us for such a small time upon this earth.  He allowed her to take part in many wonderful things and touch, and be touched by, many wonderful people.

As we release our beloved Stephanie to Heaven, she will forever be remembered in our hearts and memories. We will miss our time with Stephanie, this wonderful person, beautiful spirit and treasured member of the Talley family.  May she rest in peace.
